Phone Interview
Your first call to Family is in fact your first interview – a Phone Interview. You will make a better impression if you prepare yourself. Among other things, you will be asked about your job experience, education, commitment (less than a year, a year or more?), your value system and your personality. Family will want to find out if you’re organized and effective. Your English level will be tested.
Answer in a concise, simple way. Be polite and enthusiastic. You are “selling” yourself here, but be honest and sincere. Never lie. It is not ethical, and it will backfire on you sooner or later.
If you don’t have job references don’t panic. References from your teacher, for example, will be probably be accepted by most families. Or maybe from a charity organization you were active in. Or maybe you can obtain references from animal protection group that you helped create, or from your school theater’s leader?
If you don’t have a previous job experience, think about non-job related experiences. Maybe you helped raise your younger sister? Or maybe you raised your own children? What greater experience can there be than this? You just never thought it might help you to get a job.
If you’re invited for Final Interview, ask about address and how to get there. Ask of you can have an e-mail sent with correct address and directions, just to make sure there is no mistake.
Final Interview
Just as Phone Interview was about your voice, your language, and your soul, the Final Interview is about your non-verbal language and your appearance. Remember, you already made a very good impression; after all you are here, on a Final Interview. Family/ Employer wants to confirm a good felling she or he has about you, and perhaps clear some doubts.
Leave early. Allow some reserve for unexpected events, traffic, delays etc. Be on time or 5-10 minutes earlier. Try not to be earlier than that – it may not be seen appropriate (you can spend some time in the nearby café). And most definitely – do not be late!
Be prepared, nice, clean, neat, and modest. Be most importantly, be yourself. You will not achieve anything by pretending you are somebody else.
